I am STRONGER than my Excuses

  Today was one of those days. A day where I had every excuse in the book. I had a headache, felt bloated and was absolutely exhausted! But something inside of me got me going. 

  
I took some time to let my headache heal. Then I did an easier workout, Pilates. But I still had a good sweat. I am noticing I am stronger, more flexible and have a great amount of balance. Here is the thing– I CAN do this!!

60 in a Row

Well, it is a day to be honest. I am not perfect. Today I ate horribly, but I completed my 60th workout in a row. 

  
That was the ONLY picture I took today. Often I take pictures of moments or meals I am proud of. Today was not a day of many proud meals.

Breakfast: McDonalds Egg McMuffin with a Medium Double Double. 

Lunch: Garden salad with chilli, small portion of homemade mac’n’cheese

Dinner: Nachos with cheese, salsa and chicken

Snack: 2 clementines (x2)

I am on the road. I have my shakes here and WILL make better choices, stayed tuned. 

Tomorrow is a new day. 

Motivation Monday

  You know the saying,”Never miss a Monday!” I didn’t, but boy could I have slipped today.  I had a weekend of okay workouts. Although they were completed, I am positive I was NOT giving 100%. But did I ever give it today. 

Tonight my husband joined in. That meant so much to me. Not only did it mean “Shit, I better work this” but I felt so supported. It is like he knew I needed a little pick me up. I am so happy he joined in.  I worked harder than I have in a long time!! (Judging by the sweat on his shirt, he worked hard too!).

 

After doing nearly 60 workouts in a row, and keeping relatively good eating habits, I saw very little movement on the scale (recently). It is hard to stay motivated. Here are a few quotes that keep me going:

Non-Scale Victories

When I started this journey, I was dead set on a weight I wanted to be. The number on the scale would be my focus. That’s what happens with other diets. Heck, we even let other people look at and record our weight and give us stickers when we find success. But when the scales went up, it was easy for me to get discouraged and quit. I would walk away and deem myself fine with how I looked. Going up in numbers wasn’t ever a motivator, especially if I worked hard that week. 

Things have changed this time. I really value Non-scale victories. Whether it be fitting into an old pair of jeans that are no longer too tight, fitting into a medium top or seeing the inches come off, even if the pounds don’t budge. 

For the last month, I have plateaued on the scale. I thought for sure that it had something to do with my water intake. This week I was purposeful in getting my water in everyday. It meant many trips to the bathroom (even through the night). To my disappointment, the scales didn’t budge. Initially I was frustrated with all my hard work. Was it worth it? 

Well, yes it was!! I took my measurements and lost 2 inches in a week!! I need to keep reminding myself that this is a process and change is happening. That being said, I do plan to step things up with my eating (going back to my measuring cups). 

Another non-scale victory is my wedding rings are about to fall off. I don’t want to get them sized right now, as I have more to lose and I would like to maintain for a year before I go and get them done.  

 
I now have a spacer. It might be hard to see but there is a significant amount of space that I have here. 

Also, today I bought a new sweater that is in a medium. Not all my sweaters are mediums, but when they are, I celebrate!!

Just keep in mind that this is a process and a journey. There is no need to rush. Also that the non-victories are another thing that can help keep you motivated.

Just another Sleepy Saturday (to the tune of Manic Monday)

I love Saturdays around here. 

  
One of the main reasons why I felt it was important to take control and lose weight, was to be healthy and active for my family. Since I made the commitment for a better me, our family has become so much more active. Last weekend we were going for winter hikes, and this weekend (like most weekends) we went skating. 

Last year we went skating twice. I was only able to skate a very little bit. It was hard on my knees and my feet. My skates were too tight and the weight added so much pressure to the uncomfortable fit that I wasn’t too active. I was embarrassed and felt like I was letting my son down. 

  
This year we have gone about 5 times now. Our son is skating on his own now. Our family enjoys family skate night. It is an active way to spend our time. Had I not lost my 35 lbs, I wonder if I would be able to share this experience with our son?? I have NO regrets!! I want to be active with my family, end of story.

BUT… Not the end of this blog post. 

This week was exhausting. I woke up this morning and had no energy. I finally did my workout and NOTHING. I was left even more exhausted. Finally before skating I decided to have a shakeology with an energy boost. Initially I saw no difference but about 15 minutes following my shake I was so hyper! I had no much energy. I REGRET not having my shake earlier. If you haven’t purchased the energy boost, I strongly encourage it. 

  
SIDE EFFECT to Energy Boost – aside from being a tad bit hyper and definitely an increase in energy, I noticed I had a little bit more gas, that has a stinkier scent. My son started calling me stinky tonight. 

I can do this…

I am a consultant with my school board. This means I travel a lot with my job. Today I was in Ottawa for a ministry session. I knew that they were planning to have lasagna for lunch. But I was worried that the salad was going to be Caesar. I had a shake with green boost because I didn’t know if I would get enough greens in. In general, I tend to have difficulty with my greens. 

Turns out there was a great salad. It was huge so I made sure it took up more than half my plate. I brought some snacks and would say I was fairly good. I am not going to lie. I had a cookie for dessert. It was good. 

I think for me, I need to play to being a shake for my lunch, even as a back up. I also need to try and go for a walk at lunch. I was exhausted from sitting all day. 

When I got home I had a slight headache. I didn’t want to do anything. I went to basketball tonight and played (I got a sweaty selfie with my best friend) and then when I got home I did core attack!

  

Workout Wednesday

L For the last 3 days I have had success with my water intake!! I have struggled with this for the last few months (since October). With having so much water, I am noticing that I am not having the cravings that I was before!! I actually don’t feel the need to snack after dinner and I am craving more water. 

Where my eating is concerned, a great day. My shake for breakfast, salad for lunch, and tacos for dinner!! FYI hubby photo bombed my camera. I found this on my camera.  He did this while I was preparing my shake. He typically doesn’t look so creepy. 🙂 but I laughed and had to add it. 

  
Today I did Pilates fix. My muscles are a bit sore and I had an important volleyball match that I needed to prepare for; so I took it easy Pilates was the perfect fit (not to mention my volleyball game was pretty intense). 

I did some video recording of my workout. I am posting a video-collage. But I am so insecure. I picked apart my body while watching the videos. I tried so many different camera angles. This one is a bit awkward and I don’t love the choice, but this is what it is all about. I don’t have perfect form. And am only showing short clips from the plank series. For the record, this is a first for me. I have never ever posted a video of me doing workouts, ever.  

   
I hope to gain more strength and confidence in showcasing who I am. 

Transformation Tuesday

When I look in the mirror everyday, it is hard to recall and remember how far I have come. I have new goals, and new imperfections.. So progress can be hard to see. 

  
Having said that, I NOW realize the importance of Transformation Tuesday. It is a way to recognize all the hard work that we’ve done up until now. 
I saw how quickly I fell off the wagon, old habits come back quickly. If I look and reflect of where I was and where I am now, I will continue to be motivated. I won’t throw all the hardwork down the drain. 

This is not a diet. This is my new lifestyle. This is a part of who I am and who I want to be!!

  

  

And we’re back…

Back to work it is. For the first time in years, I wasn’t itching to get back. I had such a great holiday. I guess routine will be perfect to get my head back in the game. 

I’ve mentioned before that I am a teacher. I have taught everything from grade 1 -10, with grade 7&8 being my favourite. Early on in my career, I had the opportunity to work with a math consultant. She made math enjoyable, taught me so much and has become a mentor over the years. She was so good at what she did, that I set the goal to be a consultant at some point in my career. I worked hard for this. Had a few interviews and wasn’t successful, but kept going with it. Today, I am a math consultant, almost in my third year. 

Hard work pays of. It did for my career, so I need to apply this to my fitness goals too. I have been determined and will continue with this. There will be ups and downs but I need to keep plugging away. Today was a great start.  I stuck to the plan and am proud of this. 

Highlights from today:  
It often takes me a while to decide what I am going to wear, so when I got green stains all over my white shirt, I knew I needed to go back to bed. Adding energy boost to my shakeology was the perfect fix. It was a busy day. It is just after 11pm and I just finished my workout: Body Combat-Power Kata. I loved it.

Green Boost & Hummus Roost

I added Shakeology Greens Boost to my shake this morning. I went for chocolate and couldn’t taste the greens at all!! Added bonus. 

I also have the energy boost, which I may add to my shake tomorrow. I wonder, can I add both the energy and greens to my shake?? I have difficulty getting all my greens in and am going to try energy boost over the coffee boost (which tends to have lots of cream and sugar).  

 

  
Tonight’s meal was one of my favourites. Hummus Crusted Chicken!! It is so easy to make and delicious, and 21 day fix approved. 
 Here’s the recipe:

Hummus Crusted Chicken

  • 4 Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
  • Himalayan Salt
  • Fresh Cracked Black Pepper
  • Paprika
  • Juice of a lemon
  • 1 cup Hummus

 

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. 
  2. Season each break with salt and pepper.
  3. Coat each breat with 1/4 cup of hummus. 
  4. Sprinkle each coated breast with paprika. 
  5. Finish with lemon juice (juice from 1/4 wedge of lemon per breast). 
  6. Cook for 20 – 25 minutes (until cooked, will vary on thickness).

21 Day Fix Approved: 1 red, 1 blue per serving.
